It is clear from the Global Shipping Capacity List 2012-2022 that, in just the past 10 years, half of the 20 most famous shipping companies in the world by capacity, or 10 well-known shipping brands, have disappeared from the list!

In December 2015, China Shipping Lines (CSCL), formerly the eighth largest shipping company in the world, announced a reorganization with China Ocean Shipping Group Co., LTD. In 2016, Hanjin Shipping, the world's ninth largest shipping company and Korea's largest shipping company, went bankrupt and declared its exit from the stage of history.
In 2016, K Line, NYK Line and MOL merged to form ONE, now the seventh largest shipping company in the world
On May 24, 2017, UASC, the largest liner shipping company in the Middle East, announced a merger with HAPAG-Lloyd. After UASC was acquired by HAPAG-Lloyd, the original "UASC" brand was not retained and completely disappeared in the international shipping industry!

The South American Steamship (CSAV), founded in 1872, is one of the oldest shipping companies in the world. Hapag-lloyd and CSAV announced in April 2014 that the two companies would merge. After review by relevant regulatory authorities, the merger was formally completed in 2016.
APL, the former sixth largest shipping company in the world, was acquired by CMA CMA in 2016, and officially announced its withdrawal from commercial operations in 2020, completely disappearing from the global shipping capacity ranking.
