According to our latest information: Liverpool, which has just ended the second strike, has once again announced a two-week strike -- nearly 600 workers at the Port of Liverpool will strike from October 24 to November 7.
This is the third strike at the Port of Liverpool in two months.
First time: September 19 to October 3
The second time: October 11 to October 17
The third time: October 24 to November 7
"Workers have been facing job threats since the dock strike began on September 19, despite plans to expand the port and false claims that the port operator was offering them only 10.2 percent of their wages." In a recent statement, Unite, the trade union, said: "The actual offer is around 8.2 per cent, and with RPI inflation at 12.3 per cent, wages are falling instead."
Peel Holdings, owner of the Port of Liverpool, has agreed an 11% pay rise for its workers at Camel Laird, a shipyard in Birkenhead, and is demanding a similar deal for Liverpool dockers, the union said.
Peel is very profitable and can afford to pay our members an appropriate pay rise." "Says Sharon Graham, the union's general secretary.
"Why not do it at Liverpool Pier?
She added: "Instead of negotiating a settlement to the dispute, the port operator has chosen to threaten jobs and repeatedly mislead people about the deal it has offered. Our members stand firm and have the full support of the union. The operators must come up with a pay rise they can accept or the strike will continue."
The union statement said the dispute also involved the failure to honour a 2021 wage agreement for dockworkers. It added: "This includes the company's failure to carry out the promised pay review, which was last carried out in 1995, and its failure to honour agreements to improve shift work."
